Acorn Necklace
This design features a real acorn covered in metal. This design is so special to me, because the first thing I ever made was an acorn covered in metal. I loved that I was able to wear a little piece of an Oak tree, so I wanted to name my shop "Little Oak" but that name was already taken. So I just chose a different tree, and Little Sycamore was born! Haha. But the general concept of that first piece has carried through with all of my designs since. I love that I can make something little, to represent something big. A single raw crystal on a ring, literally a little piece of this big beautiful world that you can wear. The band that is shaped like a mountain peak, a little representation of the magnificence of this earth. A mothers necklace, just little stones, but they represent something bigger- the people she loves most. And this dainty acorn necklace, a little piece of nature that you can wear to remind you of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world.
The sweetest lady in North Carolina gathered the smallest acorns fallen from the Oak trees in her yard. We waited several months for them to dry out, and then started the process to get these made into necklaces for you! The acorns are sorted through, with us hand picking the very prettiest ones to use. Then every acorn has to be dipped several times in a coating to harden and strengthen it, and hung up to dry between each coat. It is carefully hand painted with conductive paint, and then goes through a 20 hour process of having metal deposited particle by particle over the entire acorn. I add more metal than usual, to help strengthen the acorn and to give it a bit more weight, because I think long necklaces hang better that way. A 30 inch chain is measured and cut, and the acorn is attached to the chain using locking jump rings (which are time intensive to put on, but so worth it to strengthen the necklace!). Long story short... so much time and love from multiple people has been put into every single one of these necklaces.
The chain is solid sterling silver, gold filled, or rose gold filled. The acorn is formed in a core of pure copper, then heavily plated in gold, rose gold, or silver. All Little Sycamore jewelry is lead & nickel free.
